Operations

freenode operations places special emphasis on the unique network philosophy. As such, volunteers should not expect to receive O-lines or other special privilege or authority. Staff are responsible for discussing and implementing policy, for integrating server changes into the production environment, for discussing and resolving routing and hubbing issues and for working to resolve the problems caused by denial of service attacks.

The catalyst role is of paramount importance to the operation of the network, and volunteers are expected to familiarize themselves with the role and practice these skills as effectively as possible in their interactions with other users.

Though it's not a support channel, you're most likely to find freenode volunteers on the staff social channel, #defocus. If you want to become acquainted with volunteers who staff the network and with the culture and approaches they employ, this channel is a starting point. We also have a official network help channel; #freenode

Remember that none of us is perfect, but that our goal is improvement, and we can always use your input in that process.
