QEMU smartcard CVEs and PostgreSQL corruption fixes
QEMU maintainers shipped smartcard security fixes while PostgreSQL developers closed several corruption and consistency bugs. Work also continued on replication slot durability, type alteration edge cases, and storage optimizations.
QEMU smartcard pull with three CVEs
A QEMU maintainer posted a 27-part pull request containing smartcard fixes for the USB CCID device. The series addresses three CVEs along with multiple specification-compliance corrections. Operators running guest smartcard passthrough should treat the update as security-relevant.
PostgreSQL index corruption after SET TABLESPACE rollback
PostgreSQL hackers converged on a fix for index corruption that appears after rolling back ALTER TABLE SET TABLESPACE inside a transaction. The bug (19686) left indexes inconsistent with table data. The change prevents that class of silent damage on transactional tablespace moves.
Missing tts_tid corrupts ctid after GiST KNN
A patch corrects missing tts_tid handling in ExecForceStoreHeapTuple. The defect produced ctid corruption, unexpected table extension, and invalid pages when FOR UPDATE followed GiST KNN scans. Correct tuple identity is required for reliable locking and heap updates.
Persist replication slot invalidations before publish
A proposed change ensures slot invalidations are written to disk before the corresponding shared-memory state is published. Publishing first could leave restarts with inconsistent slot views. The ordering fix improves durability of logical and physical replication metadata.
ALTER TYPE internal error on domain check constraints
A patch targets bug 19724, an internal error in ATPostAlterTypeCleanup when altering a composite type that is the base of a domain carrying a check constraint. The cleanup path now handles the dependency correctly. Domain users altering composite attributes avoid the crash.
Proposed IMPLIES boolean operator
A patch introduces an IMPLIES operator that is right-associative and expands to NOT a OR b. Discussion covered associativity, NULL behavior, and operator precedence. The addition would give SQL a direct way to express logical implication.
Direct TOAST addressing without migration
Version 2 of a Direct TOAST proposal uses direct TID addressing for TOAST tuples. The design aims to reduce index lookups and write amplification while requiring no on-disk migration. Large-value workloads stand to gain lower overhead on both reads and updates.
Uniquify virt board QOM names across targets
A ten-part QEMU series makes virt board QOM type names unique per target while keeping stable -M machine names. The change supports multi-target binaries without breaking existing command lines. Board model maintainers gain cleaner type registration.
