Kernel BPF unwind, shmem race, and THP swap
BPF exception unwind landing pads advanced again, while memory management saw a shmem page-cache race fix and continued work on huge-page swap. Filesystem, networking, and VFIO series also moved forward on the lists.
BPF exception cleanup landing pads
A v10 24-patch series for bpf-next proposes running exception cleanup landing pads when bpf_unwind() unwinds a program. The changes cover the verifier, JIT, and tests so resources can be released in a Rust-style manner on unwind paths. This matters for BPF programs that need reliable cleanup when exceptions occur.
shmem hole-punch race with fault-around
A race between shmem FALLOC_FL_PUNCH_HOLE on large folios and fault-around can corrupt the page cache and leave RSS counters unbalanced. Andrew Morton posted a fix after discussion among seven participants. Anyone using tmpfs or tracking memory accounting should take note.
PMD-level swap entries for anonymous THPs
Version 8 of a 30-patch series adds PMD-level swap entries so swapped anonymous transparent huge pages keep huge mappings across swap-out and swap-in. Without this, such pages split to PTEs and lose the benefit of huge mappings. The work targets performance under memory pressure for workloads that rely on anonymous THPs.
ext4 buffered I/O conversion to iomap
A v6 31-patch series converts ext4 regular-file buffered I/O from buffer_head to iomap. It addresses ordering, i_disksize, and data=ordered issues along the way. The series brings ext4 in line with the iomap paths already used by other filesystems.
get_maintainer THE REST as fallback only
A patch to get_maintainer.pl makes THE REST a true fallback instead of a default addressee. The intent is to stop automatically adding the linux-kernel list to every submission. Submitters and maintainers would see narrower, more accurate recipient lists.
rxrpc fixes including unprivileged UAF
A v12 15-patch net series fixes multiple rxrpc bugs, among them a use-after-free in poke_conn reachable by unprivileged users. The UAF gives the series a security dimension beyond ordinary protocol cleanup. Operators and distro kernels that enable AF_RXRPC should watch for the fixes.
VFIO passthrough for CXL Type-2 devices
Version 5 of a 27-patch series adds VFIO/PCI passthrough for CXL Type-2 accelerators. It includes guest HDM decoder support and reset control. The work opens a path for Type-2 CXL devices in virtualized environments.
