DRM memcg, panels, DMA-buf, and MSM display series
Kernel graphics traffic on dri-devel centered on large patch series for memory cgroup accounting of dma-bufs, atomic participation by panels, DMA-buf mapping types, and MSM display path work including MST and DCP. Reviews also advanced dynamic debug classmaps for DRM and a fault-handling fix shared by KVM and DRM.
memcg accounting for dma-buf
A v3 eight-patch series proposes memory cgroup accounting for dma-buf objects, along with a charge_fd ioctl, cross-cgroup charge transfer, and new LSM and SELinux hooks. The work extends container memory control to graphics buffer paths that previously sat outside memcg. Developers shipping sandboxed or multi-tenant GPU workloads have a direct stake in how charges and security hooks land.
DRM panels and atomic state
Dmitry Baryshkov posted a 35-patch series so DRM panels can join atomic commits through embedded bridges instead of growing the panel function table. The design keeps panel drivers aligned with the atomic modeset path without a parallel API surface. Panel and bridge maintainers should watch whether the embedded-bridge approach becomes the preferred pattern.
DMA-buf mapping types
A v2 26-patch series introduces DMA-buf mapping type negotiation and scatter-gather table helpers. Review raised naming objections and driver compatibility reports. Buffer-sharing stacks that cross devices or IOMMUs need the mapping contract to settle cleanly.
MSM DisplayPort MST support
A v7 35-patch series adds Multi-Stream Transport support to the msm/dp driver, including supporting refactors now under maintainer review. The goal is MST on MSM chipsets. Users of Qualcomm display hardware waiting for multi-stream DP should track remaining review comments.
dyndbg classmaps for DRM
A v13 39-patch series revives and extends the dyndbg classmaps API for subsystems after a 2023 regression, with query extensions, selftests, and DRM-oriented use. The patches restore structured debug class control that DRM and other subsystems had lost. Kernel debug tooling and DRM driver authors benefit from a working classmap path again.
Qualcomm DCP KMS backend (v2)
A v2 23-patch series adds a firmware-controlled DCP KMS backend to MSM DRM via VirtIO and HFI. Review flagged multiple high-severity bugs. MSM platform bring-up for DCP-based displays depends on those issues being resolved before merge.
Qualcomm DCP display support
Qualcomm posted a 13-patch series adding a DCP firmware-controlled KMS backend to MSM DRM using VirtIO and HFI. The series targets the same DCP display path as the larger v2 effort. Interested parties should treat the two threads as related DCP enablement work still in flux.
pfn_mkwrite and fixup_user_fault
Paolo Bonzini posted a v2 six-patch series fixing interaction between .pfn_mkwrite() and fixup_user_fault() for VM_IO and VM_PFNMAP mappings used by KVM and DRM. The change addresses incorrect fault handling on those special mappings. Virtualization and graphics code that shares PFNMAP regions needs the corrected path.
