QEMU property schema work and PostgreSQL replication fixes

Databases & Infrastructure2026-11-02

QEMU developers advanced large patch series tying device properties to QAPI types, while PostgreSQL hackers continued work on logical replication conflict logging and several correctness fixes. The day centered on schema introspection, replication edge cases, and machine model additions across both projects.

QEMU links QOM properties to QAPI schema types

A 65-patch v7 series on qemu-devel proposes associating QOM and qdev properties with QAPI schema types, adding qapi-type introspection and deprecating older string-based approaches. The work, discussed across more than 100 messages, aims to make device configuration more strongly typed and introspectable. A related v8 resend of 56 patches continues the same direction, marking the new interfaces unstable and avoiding churn to existing types.

PostgreSQL conflict log table for logical replication

PostgreSQL hackers kept reviewing a proposal for a conflict log history table in logical replication, spanning error handling, GUC controls, and edge cases across 165 messages. The table would give operators a durable record of replication conflicts rather than relying solely on transient logs. Reviewers are refining how failures are recorded and exposed so that replication can be diagnosed and recovered more reliably.

Fix for two_phase state reset on ALTER SUBSCRIPTION

A patch on pgsql-hackers addresses a bug in which ALTER SUBSCRIPTION could reset the two_phase state to pending even when two-phase commit was already enabled. The incorrect reset risks breaking checks around prepared transactions for logical replication subscribers. The change keeps the enabled state stable so that prepared-transaction handling continues to work as configured.

WAL CRC failures under consistency checking

Hackers discussed a minimal fix for incorrect WAL record CRC calculation when an underlying buffer is modified, observed with hash indexes under wal_consistency_checking and REGBUF_NO_CHANGE. The mismatch can produce false consistency failures even when the logged data is valid. The thread focuses on a narrow correction that avoids broader WAL format changes.

QEMU Octeon III and i.MX8MP machine support

Separate QEMU series advanced hardware models: a 26-patch v6 set adds Octeon III CN73xx and EBB7304 machine support with associated peripherals, while a 14-patch v4 series brings Cortex-M7 asymmetric multiprocessing boot and GPC, GPR, SRC, and MU models to the i.MX8MP target. Both expand the set of boards that can be emulated without requiring physical hardware. A further series encodes a secure flag on QOM types with QMP and CLI reporting to clarify virtualization versus non-virtualization security scope.
